About Your RDN
Hey there! I’m Katie, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) and Certified Personal Trainer based in Colorado (about 30 mins from Denver!) I received my Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from Fontbonne University and Master’s Degree in Nutrition & Dietetics from Eastern Illinois University with a focus in Nutrition Education (If you're interested in my credentials an certifications, scroll to the bottom of this page!)
I'm an INFJ personality type, so I feel deeply, lean into my intuition and am endlessly passionate and driven to find a deeper meaning in life. I have found that mission to be helping others heal their relationship with food. I want to be the big sister, friend and professional that I needed when I was in your position!
I first became interested in nutrition after healing from an eating disorder as a teenager. Once I began learning about nutrition and healthy habits (from a non-disordered eating lens), I experienced a mental and physical transformation that changed my life. I can honestly say, learning mindfulness and intuitive eating transformed my life, and healed my relationship with food. My #1 goal as your dietitian is help give you the support I needed when I was new to my health journey. I want to make nutrition simple and intuitive, so you can live your life in the healthiest way possible, without obsessing over it or letting in take over you life!
As a teenager I became passionate about health & fitness. I’ve always been a very passionate, dedicated and perfectionist type personality, so of course I took my good intentions to the extreme. I also didn’t feel confident or comfortable in my body, so I did everything in my power to change it and ended up in a cycle of over exercising and undereating. It helped me feel in control, in a way.
One day upon weighing myself ... I started sobbing uncontrollably. I wasn't happy. I knew I deserved more in life, and I knew if I continued to under-eat and over-exercise, I was slowly wasting my precious life away. I knew I was destined for more - and so from that day forward.. I decided it was time for a change.
I studied and studied about how to eat a healthy, unrestrictive diet. I learned about mindful eating, intuitive eating and gentle nutrition. I learned how people who are active need more energy and fuel to be active and do what they love. I was dedicated to being kind and compassionate to my body both in how I spoke to it, and how I fueled it.
What does "Dark Blue" represent?
So where does the "Dark Blue" in "Dark Blue Nutrition" come from? Great question!
To any music lovers out there, the idea originated from a song "Dark Blue" by Jack's Mannequin (any Something Corporate or Jack's Mannequin fans in the house?) As a color nerd, the theme of "dark blue" stuck with me.
All colors have a certain energy to them, and I truly believe colors significantly impact our feelings and our mood. In the world of energies and chakras, the color dark blue is associated with our "third eye", e.g. our inner wisdom and intuition, hence how I found Dark Blue Nutrition to be so fitting! I want nutrition to be something that can be fun, judgement-free and live-enhancing, rather than so restrictive that it's debilitating.
